William L. (“Bill”) Smith - Attorney at Law and trial lawyer with law offices based in Boise, Idaho.

Mr. Smith's law practice focuses on the areas of litigation and general business representation, including business law, business formations, bankruptcy, creditors' rights, finance, real estate, construction law, bid disputes, commercial litigation, complex litigation, business torts, collections, consumer protection and employment law.

Mr. Smith regularly represents all members of the construction and real estate industries, including property owners, suppliers and distributors, general contractors, builders, design professionals, subcontractors developers, and lenders in all aspects of commercial and residential construction.

Mr. Smith has represented clients in a variety of interesting scenarios, including:

  • Representation of a steel supplier in a materials defect lawsuit involving steel for a rocket launch facility,
  • Representation of a professional basketball league in multiple arbitrations involving the enforcement of player agreements,
  • Representation of a football turf manufacturer in bid dispute litigation and an appeal related to the blue turf installed at Bronco Stadium,
  • Representation of a horseracing facility operator in lawsuits related to the facilities licensure and right to continue operations, and
  • Representation of large general contractors in the construction of highways, bridges, large box stores, and many other projects.

Mr. Smith is a 1999 graduate of the University of Idaho, College of Law. Mr. Smith is admitted to practice in all courts in the State of Idaho as well as the United States Court of Federal Claims.

During and after law school, Mr. Smith clerked for the late Honorable J. William (“Bill”) Hart a District Judge in Idaho’s Fifth Judicial District. While clerking for Judge Hart, Mr. Smith was actively involved in the management of numerous jury and court trials. Mr. Smith has successfully taken cases to trial in varied forums, including jury trials, court trials, and arbitrations. Mr. Smith has also resolved many disputes through the use of settlement conferences, mediations, and negotiation.

Mr. Smith is a lifelong resident of Idaho. Hailing from the Magic Valley, Idaho, Mr. Smith graduated from Kimberly High School and attended the College of Idaho, the College of Southern Idaho, and the University of Idaho. Mr. Smith was formerly a Shareholder and Director in the law firm Trout ♦ Jones ♦ Gledhill ♦ Fuhrman, P.A. Prior to that Mr. Smith was associated with Trout & Nemec, PLLC; Trout, Weeks & Nemec, PLLC; Benoit, Alexander, Harwood, High & Butler, LLP, and Benoit, Alexander, Sinclair, Harwood & High, LLP.

In June of 2007, Mr. Smith founded the predecessor to Smith Horras, P.A. Mr. Smith is the President, a Shareholder, and a Director of Smith Horras, P.A.

Mr. Smith is a member of the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association and the Professionalism and Ethics, Section of the Idaho State Bar Association. Smith Horras, P.A. is also a member of the Building Contractors Association of Southwest Idaho.

Mr. Smith also serves as guardian ad litem in the local Courts, writes and lectures in various forums on legal issues, and is an avid golfer and runner.
